DR. JACK BURAK is a Vancouver physician who has been practising general medicine enthusiastically for the past 30 years. He is a former member of the Canadian Medical Association board of directors and former president of the British Columbia Medical Association. A clinical professor of family medicine at the University of British Columbia, Dr. Burak is deputy registrar of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.

DR. MICHAEL EVANS, a family physician at Toronto’s St. Michael’s Hospital, is an associate professor in the department of family and community medicine at the University of Toronto. He is director of Ontario’s new Health Media & Innovation Lab at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute at St. Michael’s Hospital, which aims to integrate best medicine with the new ways that people navigate their lives. He is also founder of U of T’s Mini-Med School, a health-sciences lecture program for the general public, and serves as a health columnist for the Globe and Mail and the CBC. |

DR. LYDIA HATCHER was a full-time pediatric emergency physician at the Janeway Child Health Centre in St. John’s until 1989. She then joined the medical faculty at Memorial University, where she is an associate professor and chair of the academic advisory committee of the Clinical Skills Assessment and Training Program. Dr. Hatcher is in private practice in Mount Pearl, Nfld., and is involved in developing continuing medical education programs. She also participates in clinical research trials. |

DR. ISRA LEVY is president of Canadian Health’s advisory board. He is also medical officer of health at Ottawa Public Health and former chief medical officer and director of the Canadian Medical Association’s Office for Public Health. Dr. Levy practises community medicine in Ottawa and sits on several national and international committees. He is an adjunct professor of epidemiology and community medicine at the University of Ottawa. |

DR. MANO MURTY practises general medicine in Ottawa and is an active member of the Ontario Medical Association, the Canadian Medical Association and the College of Family Physicians of Canada. A former national president of the Federation of Medical Women of Canada, Dr. Murty is now a manager in the post-market drug surveillance program for Health Canada and is also involved in regulatory activities pertaining to marketed health products. |

DR. JACQUES H. ROY is a retired officer of the Canadian Armed Forces who has been involved in family medicine for more than 45 years. He practises in Quebec’s Outaouais region, where he helps those suffering from mental illness, compulsive disorders and addiction to alcohol, drugs or gambling. In 2005, Dr. Roy was honoured for his work in the French television series Gens de cœur et d’action. He is a board member of the Canadian Medical Association and vice-president of the Quebec Medical Association. |

DR. SAMUEL E.D. SHORTT is director of knowledge transfer and practice policy at the Canadian Medical Association. An Ottawa family physician, Dr. Shortt was director of the Centre for Health Services and Policy Research at Queen’s University and a professor in the departments of community health, epidemiology and family medicine. Holding a PhD in history and a Master of Public Administration, he is the author of numerous papers on medicine, history and health policy, as well as the monograph The Doctor Dilemma: Public Policy and the Changing Role of Physicians Under Ontario Medicare (2006). |
